Texture

TEXTURE

Texture is the surface quality that can be seen and felt. Textures can be rough or smooth, soft or hard. We often use adjectives such as scaly, feathery, spiky or furry to describe what a texture is like.

Texture is important in art because it gives the viewer information about the objects that are represented in the work of art and helps the viewer relate to the subject matter.

Actual Texture

Actual texture is the way an object feels - sculptures rely heavily on actual texture because they are three-dimensional forms.

Implied Texture

Implied texture is when the artist tries to give the viewer the impression of a real texture using the other elements of art.
