Unity
UNITY
Unity is the feeling that everything in the work of art works together and looks like it fits.
This work of art is unified. (Mona Lisa, by Leonardo Da Vinci) |
This example is not unified. (Parody of Mona Lisa) |
Creating unity in your artwork is important, because it makes the image not only pleasing to look at, but it also makes the image believable – unity makes all the pieces of the artwork feel like they belong there.
Starry Night, by Vincent Van Gogh
Repetition of shape and color can make an artwork look unified. An example of this is Starry Night, by Vincent Van Gogh. All of the impressionist brush strokes he used throughout the painting unify the image and make all of the objects look like they belong together.
